Some of you must be thinking how did I end up in a cemetery all the way to Kenya, right?

There is nothing creepy or weird to honour your lost ones and this is exactly what I did with my friend Wanjiku who lost some family members a while ago.

We were driving to downtown and she randomly asked me if i wanted to go to the cemetery and salute her Uncle and Cousin and I instantly said yes. This cemetery is huge and what surprised me at first was to see that each religion have a specific area within the same cemetery which is pretty unusual where I come from.

Something else, seriously shocked me and got me speechless for at least ten minutes.

I was walking around randomly looking at graves and ninety percent of the people who have been buried barely reached the thirties. We all know that death is not optional it's inevitable but seeing people leaving earth at such young age due to crime, sickness and car accidents makes it harder to swallow..

It's been nearly a week now since I left the muddah land. I am very proud of myself for the initiative taken and would like to thank SirWill, Kimba, Chrissie and Sharp who supported me by giving clothes away and some money. It has helped me to buy pencils, erasers, glue sticks for those kids. I do not forget my people over there too from Wanjiku, Mc Kah, Black, Iza, Lucie, Sergent Sunz for their warmth and hospitality ( Big up to the sister Rim too ).

Funny thing is when I was telling people that I was going to Kenya with the purpose of helping orphans and not chilling with baboons and lions, some of them was a bit surprised. Thinking that you only go there for safaris is a bit reductive..

I had the chance to meet Jaqui and Guy, two amazing people from the orphanage NEW LIFE HOME TRUST in Nairobi who kindly have opened their doors and allowed me to spend this precious hour with these amazing kids from three months up to twelve years old. First thing that impressed me, when I stepped into the house to see the grown ones was how naturally each of them jumped on me and showed me love without drawing any line. All they wanted to do was to play with me, scracth my tattoos to see if it comes off , was wondering how come my beard was more furnished than my head or how come I was wearing earrings lol. I won't ever forget their smiles, cuddles and laughters..

Probably the most exciting and changing experience I am going to go through this year. Apart from my visa which is supposed to be done by tomorrow, I am nearly set up and ready to hit the amazing land of Kenya and embrace its culture for one week. Many people around me from my mother to some of my clients remain very sceptical and even scared for me. But I always firmly refused to live as an ignorant and this experience through non accurate and exaggerated informations found on the internet.

Because, since the past three weeks I have heard and rade sooooo many things but I am determined to live every second of my time there with some much joy and passion regardless all the negativity spread by medias.

When you are trying to figure out how to make your way to Buckingham Palace to "see" the Queen, others are still waiting on the pavement for some attention, a smile or a few pennies.

Recently, towards the period of Christmas I was on my way to work listening to music and about to catch my bus when suddenly this beautiful black woman came across and asked me if I had some change. I have told her that I never carry any because I always spend it and that is literally what I told her.

So I have left but then instantly felt that it was wrong to do that but I came back and asked her if at least she wanted a hot drink and eat something.

She humbly replied that as she hardly had any food in the past few days that she would rather not to. She was trying to reassure me and told me it would be alright. She was holding my hand and left a kiss on it and thank me thousand times. Something was holding me back but I left one more time to finally come back with some water, fruits and milk. Since that day, I expect to see her and give her a hug and some food but I've unfortunately never seen her ever again..

Another beautiful experience that showed me that you always have to follow your instinct, push the boundaries, stop having prejudices and go towards people openly because you might miss some unique moments or simply friendships.

Back in Atlanta for the third time, I was looking for new faces. In this very typical laundry with my boys Kev and Yamin, I was playing around with my camera at first then a cuuuuute little girl probably 2 years old caught my attention. She was playing with her older brother whilst her mom was folding their clothes. I ain't gonna lie I remain kind of shy when it comes to ask to people if they mind me taking some shots of them.

Because most of them act funny or think I am going to do something dodgy with the pictures.

Then, I was like " Hol'up B, you flew for nine hours straight and you are here only five days" which is true because at the end of the day all I'm risking is to get a "No".

I went to talk to her parents and thankfully she allowed me to take a few flicks. These five minutes spent with these kids really made my evening and my visit memorable.....

In the city of Atlanta, there is always a new artist at every corner and I recently met one of them.

I actually met that woman named Emma DOSS through my second visit when I was walking around in Castleberry Hill. We both were strapped up with our cameras with the same goal, looking for new pictures. This is so far the best movie I have seen this year. Even though, I usually love War movies this one definitely stands out from all. It is not necessarily the way that it has been filmed but it is moooore the love, determination, braveness and many times the unconsciousness of this man called Sam Childers who touched me. Originally from Pennsylvania, he used to be a crack addict, been jailed even killed until he made his way to become a better man through the love of God. What I incredibly find respectable is the commitment of this man because rather than just telling what he saw over there, he decided to give up on everything material to make Sudanese's people struggle HIS. All this, reminds me that I sometimes want to totally change of life ( probably will ) and get out of my comfort zone and fight for a cause I find right.

Recently, I have been listening to an old school French rap tune by Rocca.

Today was one of those days when rain took it over one more time. I went to the mall to clear my head a bit and to buy a few things. When I came back home, I randomly started watching this great movie called Freedom Writers, based on a true story. I admire individuals like this woman who dedicated her life and soul to help people. Sadly, this woman genuinely believed in something that her husband didn't at all. Some of us, unfortunately don't have that natural confidence, that strength that allows you to believe in yourself to achieve anything down here. This is certainly due to their education, background or childhood.

I was born and raised in the suburbs in France....yeah those areas generally deprived and too often called ghetto or project. I am from a middle class family, not rich not poor. In my childhood, I can't tell that I did miss of anything as my parents gave everything to us. I've made the stupid choice to leave school and to start working at the age of nineteen with only one poor degree in pocket when I could have studied like most of the kids. You know what comes after>> Minimum wage>>struggle>>hustle ( nah i'm not trying to sound like Ace Hood ). However, I'm not gonna blame it on the place I grew up ( TOO EASY ) but myself as I am responsible for my acts and decisions. You have the choice to do good or to do bad, get it straight!

I've noticed something else that worries me even more, which is racism and I'm not even talking about Interracial racism but more intra. This can kill us all when we could use our time and energy to learn from each other. The moral is to believe in yourself, look around and stay united...

Since I've started this blog I always been quite positive but I'm going through one of those moments of frustration right now (again). As I'm writing this post I'm actually having this conversation with my friend Madame Pepper about our mutual passion and its consequences. Artists always struggle either to take their art to the next level or to make a living with it . Most of us have a day time job time to cover the bills. There are also two major factors to consider which are time and money but in my case the only thing i'm mainly missing out of is time. It slowly drags me away from my passion and make me ask myself the same damn question... should i quit or keep fighting....Would i fail if i quit or if i keep trying and don't reach my goal?

Two days ago, i been through a loss something really important to me. Let me reassure you, it wasn't a relative or a friend ( i had enough of that in the past few months/ years ) but it was much deeper or let's say subtle. Since i live in this new city of dreams, i had the chance to immortalise many moments through my trips. I did loose most of them partly due to my lack of serious. I had a scam on my mac which i thought it was a virus ( i know it's technically not possible ).

I took it to the Apple Store but unfortunately, they had to wipe all my shit off and as i didn't have any back up....

Most of you, surely won't understand what i feel for my pictures...my creations...the reflection of my vision. This is only when i realised that i might lose them all that I was so attached to my art. I can spend sometimes weeks without shooting or looking at my pictures but just the fact to think of not seeing them ever again hurts.

Musicians tend to have an oral memory compared to a painter or a photographer, which is more visual. If a beat maker looses his instrumental he can build it over again note by note but what can i do? This morning, i spent a few hours hunting every single picture down saved online and trying to piece them together just like a puzzle.

But hey i gotta face the reality, turn the page and move on with this indelible mark that will remain in my heart...

My Grand Parents and I on my Mom's side

Last time i saw my Grand-Ma on my Dad's side at the airport when moving back to Vietnam

Straight from the lab ( bedroom ), I was browsing on FB until I saw a post from my boy Jack Preston who reminded me of my Grand-Father ( above ) and my Grand-Mother on my father's side that I've lost two and three years ago. It was the first time in my whole life that I was facing death and I'm not just talking about random people but my own family, my own blood..

I remember the day before my trip to Vietnam, my mother told me that my Grand-Father had a CVA.

We rushed to the hospital in the morning to see him. When i've opened the door of his room, I couldn't hold it down and I started to cry so much. I've whispered in his ear " I love you so much, please don't forget me please don't forget me " and he replied to me " Shhhh don't worry, why do you want me to forget you". He was extremely tired...tired of fighting for all of us.

For me, when I left the hospital he was already dead. It was hard to go to Vietnam after this as I didn't want to leave him. I was meant to stay three weeks there but only stayed two as it was too hard to handle my Mom's cries on the phone. So I spoke to one of my Uncles in Saigon about the situation and he encouraged me to go back to look after him. I was shared between sadness and happiness because I was so happy to see him again but so sad to leave my family here in Saigon. Even if he now left us, he still remains present in our lives...

PS: Don't wait to lose someone to realise that you love or you want to see them, because once they gone...

I didn't write a single line in a while probably because nothing in particular happened to me in the past few weeks. For once, I didn't get the inspiration from a picture but from someone I spoke to five minutes only!

Last Tuesday, after work I decided to go to the big Sainsbury's to do some food shopping. I started talking to this very kind man about anything and everything really. He ended up telling me how he loved every second of his new job as a cashier ( I first thought he was joking to be honest lol then i understood where he was coming from )

Even though that is not the best job ever , I respect and admire so much his attitude and the joy he spreads. This guy was unemployed during three long years and went through a depression. However, you could see in his eyes that he was so proud of himself especially when he is fifty-two years old.

People nowadays take thousand of courses or spend between five to ten years sometimes in school to get the best jobs to earn ridiculous amount of money but my question now is how many of them are happy with what they do?

I admit that comfort is important because some have to feed their families, pay the bills, the mortgage, loans and all that can of shit but fulfilment remains the key, am I right? I don't know if earning fifty grand would make me that happy if I wouldn't like my job.

But one thing i know is that guy named Garry showed me that you must keep your chin up even though you feel that you are close to the edge...

VIET FOOD

Vietnamese Restaurant TAN MYDO, 13th district PARIS

Since i moved to London and left this shit city/country, i only miss three things: my friends, family and my Vietnamese food! Don't you dare mix it up with that Chinese food with a huge amount of sauce with no taste, i'm talking about proper Viet dishes that smells sooo good that you could even think your Mom made them! Even the few poor restaurants in London ain't got a thing on this one in terms of variety, quality, quantity and price.

The past few times, i didn't get the chance to go there but this time i had to! I went there with my tight bredrin "YO" that i haven't seen in ages. I had pork, pork and pork!! which is the best meat ever whatever your God says!

This post isn't to feed any "gossip" or to talk about me but more to talk about a major issue called identity.

My father was born in Vietnam (Saigon) and my mother is white (french). The reason why i specified that she is white then French it's because wether you like it or not the world and France isn't what it used to be, you can be black, asian, arabic and being french regardless your complexion.

Born and raised in France in the suburb, I grew up in an occidental and french environment.

If you ask me where i'm from, i first will answer that i'm French rather than talking about my origins.

Only my Grand-mother on my father's side used to live in France for a while but went back to Vietnam in the 90's which kept me away from many questions.

My father has never or very rarely said something about his childhood or neither taught us our second language. My mother was constantly fighting him because of that.

However, my parents was often taking me to the asian neighborhood in central Paris, where very young i had the chance to discover some aspects of my second culture like food.

Even conscious about who i was, i started being a bit more curious in 2007, so i decided to go to Vietnam to see my family for the first time, without being able to speak or understand a word of Vietnamese. They treated me like a prince like we knew each other for years and i'm so greatfull for this..

After the most exciting and beautiful trip in my whole life which last two weeks (yes even better than Atlanta lol) ,i still remain the same person with the same blood running through my vains. What i mean about this is, going to Africa every year won't make you more african than caucasian even though you have the right to feel more comfortable with one culture or another. I feel sorry for those who try to persuade themselves that they are this or that and have the foolishness to reject the other part.

Identity isn't about how you are being seen by the society, it is about who you really are. If you think the opposite you are wrong extremely wrong.

I understood very quickly that being mixed is a true blessing...

I perfectly remember the heavy and negative atmosphere running in this street where the neighbors obviously showed us that we weren't welcome but it didn't stop me to immortalize this moment.

I loved these streets.....quiet on some point but so vibrant that some people like to call the ghetto

You asking me why? simply because this is where i find my most of my inspiration plus you won't ever meet anyone who will stop you in the middle of the street and ask you for a picture in Buckhead or Piedmont.

When i first saw this old man sitting on his table i knew straight away that i couldn't leave without taking this shot, look at him he got so much soul...

I took those pictures randomly in Atlanta (agaiiiiiiiiiiin) but i'm sure you will forgive me for my obsession about this city. If i write this article it is because we all go through doubts, fears in our lives and to be honest i have been through this many times myself. We are all good at something but what are we great at? cause that's what really matters. In fact, too many people get a comfortable job money wise but are not happy with it. I came to the point where i prefer to do what i'm made for rather than working from 8 to 4 in an office earning big money and having all my weekends etc..

I understood something, even if you get support from everybody only you can fight those two factors. All you need to do is to stay focused, motivated, asking yourself the right questions but also to discipline yourself.

I came to the conclusion that every struggle is worth trying unless you put all your trust in it....

Who would have thought that i would be sitting on this porch on this beautiful sunday in Atlanta?

I love those kids so much, they are so cute, mannered, well educated and funny as hell!

I was saying to her big brother how grateful i am to be able to travel and telling my stories or simply sharing cultures with anybody that crosses my path.
I have left Georgia only a couple of hours ago and i already miss them..

This lady full of grace is one of the beautiful people i have had the chance to meet in Atlanta. I met her at a rehearsal of Stacy Epps as she is one of her musicians and believe me she can play flute for days!!!! Most of the time, musicians tend to be neglected by the crowd compared to the singers, that is why i'm doing this article.

She is also an activist, a scribe and a media director which makes her even more fascinating.

When we arrived at this nice little cafe, she whispered in my ear " do you like Van Hunt's music??"and in my mind as i'm very slow sometimes i thought she said James Blunt (lol)

Precisely four seconds later, it clicked and i realized that the guy right behind me was Van Hunt

I was a little nervous cause nothing was ready ( that's why i'd need to get a compact camera ^^ ).

Since i am in Atlanta, i'm obsessed about finding an abandonned warehouse so my research finally led me to the South side. Two days ago, i went there with a friend of mine and whilst we were walking along the rails, i suddenly heard a noise coming from the bushes.

I first thought it was a worker but it was Alberto also called Papi who lives on the street since three months.

He left Cuba in the 80's to get a better life over here but he went through many issues with his family.

I was so schocked when he told me that his daughter was coming from time to time to visit him and i'm not even gonna talk about the conditions he was living in....

I truly enjoyed the 15 minutes i have spent with him, i felt so usefull.

He thank me for being there for him and he kept repeating "you coming from nowhere but you are here for me".I said to him "even though you always will stay in my heart and you probably won't ever be able to see it, i wanna take a picture of you because it's way more precious" then he accepted.
While certain people spend their time to drink alcohol he washes cars to survive which i have found admirable....

Give everything without expecting anything in return

I met him a few days ago through a friend we have in common who currently lives in Atlanta.

My boy was constantly talking about him and i realized that he was indeed ridiculously talented but so humble.

He first started with design and graffiti a few years ago to finally fall in love with a third discipline which is Tattooing. The photographs you see above speak for themselves.

Let me get straight to the point on this one, you can tell me anything you want but at some point in our lives we all need support, love and understanding no matter what we go through or want to achieve.

Some people find all this in God, friends, family or simply colleagues but one thing you must bear in mind

is where you come from. Unfortunately, some of you tend to take it for granted.

2010 January 2nd, one of my biggest dreams came true and without my people i wouldn't be where i am today that's why i always will be so grateful to them. Since last year, I had the chance to meet sincere, real and authentic persons that i will cherish for the rest of my life.

However, I will not spend my time to name all of you because deep down we all know who we are...

THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD

This second post is dedicated to another city that i recently felt in love with who's Atlanta, GA because of the Soul Food, the people that grills ribs along the road, the music, its past and also the weather.

It happened totally randomly, i didn't know where to go on holiday so i decided to visit one my boys that lives there for a while now. What people say about the Southern Hospitality is not a myth, people are incredibly warm and welcoming.

If you are not used to this, please don't go! I've been told that a lot of people from the rest of the United States move there and i'm not gonna lie it did cross my mind and for those who know me, when i got something on mind....

This place has a huge potential in terms of opportunities on all levels, within a week i have spent intense moments with laid back peeps ( Shot out to Junior, Nellie, Jesaya, Stacy..) so this is why i'm going back at the end of this month ( don't hate ).

Hopefully this sunrise i had to catch whilst i was driving will warm you up wherever you are.

L'AMOUR DE LA MUSIQUE

Here it is people, this new year begins pretty well and intensively i might say. That is why i decided to do this blog. For those who don't know me, my name is Bruno NGUYEN, i am a self-taught photographer who now lives in one of the most inspiring city in the world called London.

I will either talk about what i feel or simply post some of my work.

It has been such a long day but very productive so you can guess how knackered i am and i've been thinking about this first post too much to leave it for the next day.

This guy above on the picture is K9 (nah it ain't his governor name...) is an up-coming producer/rapper from South London or should i just say an artist. He is also one third of the group FRENGLISH CONNEXION.

I have been shooting the video of one of his tracks today and to be honest it was a totally new and interesting experience because i'm really not used to filming people.
